i really liked this book, i think that it was better than the first one but still very short. i really want to see natalia and cam get together and i really don't like raine. i loved that at the end cam and natalia are kinda getting their act together but i still think that its going to be a while before anything real happens between them. i think this series is going to get better as they go on but i really wish they were a little longer.
It has the same plot as Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, but is more hyped-up because it includes child rape and takes place more recently.
This is the first Jennifer Donnelly I've read which I haven't given five stars to, which I find sad. It's good though; her debut isn't quite as full of scandal as the Tea Rose series that I adore, but it's got some excellent parts. Centering around a real murder, this book uses letters from the murdered girl and places them in the hands of Mattie, a fictional character. This allows the mystery to be built up while also focusing on a fictional story about growing up, first love, and independence. I loved Mattie and I loved her word of the day and the word battles with best friend Weaver. The scenes with the sisters were fun and I was really rooting for Mattie to be able to get to college. I didn't like Royal but I could see why she was a bit caught up in him - the conclusion to that story arc was dealt with in a very satisfying way.
