This book makes me think about why some books can be brillant and just awful at the same time! Parts of this were dreadful and the taboo subject of incest was thrust down my throat like an assault. I felt so uncomfortable with what the author seemed to imply was acceptable and then the deviant behavior spiraled out of control with the stereotypical jaunt to San Francisco. Maybe that was the author's intention. But I wanted more of the adult Cal and Julie, more of the genetic mapping, more therapy!! I wanted to know more about how someone really lives, day to day, with this genetic mutation. And I wanted at least one character to be grossed-out by incest and not say ,"oh really, your husband was your brother and your third cousin, too?" Great writing, uncomfortable subject.
