I'm really torn about this book. On the one hand, I love love loved it. I loved reading about both Mary and Sherlock experiencing serious emotion - about themselves, about each other, about the case at hand. I have wanted just a little bit more of that in previous books. On the other hand, the mystery itself is not as intriguing (or complicated) as in the previous novels. By the time both characters have expressed the fact that there is actually a mystery, I wanted the characters to have moved a step forward in the actual mystery itself. Therefore, at some points while reading the book, I told people it was my favorite of the series. By the end, I still loved it but found myself wishing their had been a little something more. The book flips back and forth from Mary's perspective to Sherlock's perspective and back again. I thoroughly enjoyed that as it gave deeper insight into both characters. I look forward to the next book.
