This is a really interesting story, which is the prototypical self-confessing narration of depravity. It's mimicked in Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, Sartre's Erostratus and many others. There's even a new TV show entitled "Notes from the Underbelly"--a an attempt at portraying the comedic side of pregnancy. There's something inside me that really hopes that show won't go past a 9-month gestation period, but there's another part of me that knows that imitation (even if in title alone) is a good form of flattery. All that to say, read the original--it's quite interesting.
oy. my coworkers and i are reading this book to talk about our core values in community organizing and social justice. it's a springboard for good discussion, and yet, between the robert bly quotation and the less than desireable new-agey writing, I'm not sold. I do imagine that it's better than us trying to read Covey's Seven Habits.... sigh
