These stories are as varied as they are delicious, exotic as the are relatable. Anais's writing seems to create a window through which her readers and see sex and desire and consuming passion as the most basic, natural human experiences. There is no veil of obscenity, no judgement, no sin. Anais has a way of finding the absolute black and white that separates eroticism and vulgarity, and places her stories right in the grey. There is an element of psychology in her writing that, among other things, elevates her stories past the erotic. There is a raw truth in her writing that is refreshing and in some ways intimidating. While I loved this collection and devoured it in two short sittings, I still prefer her diaries which are the most honest and intimate account of sex, love, human nature, and passion I have ever read.
Dresden Files, book four...faeries are not cute...
This was an enjoyable little read. As a folklore/fairytale geek I appreciated what Rowling was doing with these, and particularly the thinly-veiled Beatrix Potter snark. Dumbledore's commentary, between the aforementioned snark and the smug footnotes, was quite amusing. The last commentary did go on about the Elder Wand for longer than I cared to read about it (much like the last book), but other than that it was fun. Incidentally, it's also a nice-looking book-- the illustrations are fun, and even the endpapers look and feel like quality, attractive paper.
