I really enjoyed this book - good vampire series.
This was a long one, and I'm a slower reader than most, so this took me a while. I overall enjoyed it (obviously). Reynolds does a pretty good job of coming up with some wacky scifi technologies that actually have some basis on current technologies, theories, and concepts. (Not that I believe that they are inevitable, but that I can see how someone would take ideas underlying current technology and massively extrapolate from there.) As you might know if you've ever read any Reynolds and read about Reynolds, this book started out with three separate stories that eventually connected up. He provides a whole lot of backstory and detail which, while not always necessary for the overall plot, really helps to paint the pictures he's trying to convey. His writing is florid, sometimes distractingly so, but overall enjoyable. I was very happy that I read the book on my Kindle so that I could easily look up the definitions of words I didn't know. He may have gone a little overboard with all the fancy talk, but he's British, and I'm American, so that's not too surprising. It did take me a bit to get into the book, but that's often to be expected when reading a long and somewhat complicated scifi book from an unfamiliar author. ** kind of a spoiler below, but not really a spoiler ** While I enjoyed most of the book, I was pretty unimpressed with the ending (the last 15% or so). It was pretty out there, and I generally dislike that type of thing. However, I enjoyed the rest of the book enough that I was still happy with it overall.
the movie was better. although i'm not a cameron diaz fan.
