Jonathan Franzen has a potty mouth. Then he tries to pass this one off as great lit. I read this along with Dante's Divine Comedy and The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway. Even in Hell and in Hemingway's PTSD world did eiter one find it necessary to use the F word, the C word, or spend pages writing about excrement or enemas. Franzen says his book is not for the "middle-brow" reader...and I completely agree. It is "low-brow." I give The Corrections 3 stars on the basis of excellent character development...too bad there was not a good story to go along with them.
