Leonie Adams has to be the most underappreciated poet I know of. She is almost never anthologized in collections of women poets, maybe because her work runs to austere natural imagery and metaphysical themes and thus maybe doesn't fit the editors' idea of what women poets do. It's a pity, though. Her diction and sense of rhythm and line are incredible, she has a magisterial command of forms, and she evokes the sublime as easily as the beautiful (see especially her sonnet, "Thought's End"). She was apparently one of Roethke's favorite poets, if you need a recommendation weightier than mine.
