To tell the truth, throught these book I made a first contact with turkish art of writing and turkish XVI culture and history also. Recently thanks to person close to my heart, I fell in love with Turkey as a country and as the unique and proud nation. "My name is Red" show us the endless problem that bothers XVI century citizens of Osamn Empire, but also Turks nowday's- the problem between East and the West. The problem bewteen art and brutality. The problem between law's and freedom... also problem between love and the logic. I know that I'm still young person, and I may not understand everything that author tired to tell his readers. I may not uderstand all cultural and religious complexities, because I am an "infidel" from Europe. But I'm sure that I felt same melancholy, reading about the miniaturis's masters, the carefree childhood day's of characters and imaging the wealth of colors on old pictures. I laughed when meddach told stories about being woman or a dog, I deeply considurated when he describes point of view as death and the devil and I sighed while thinking about the beauty of the perfect steed. I almost cried being with Uncle and Olive in their last moments on this world and I was excited learning the Black and Şeküre fantasies... Orhan Pamuk narration is so sugestive that I, the youngster who was never interested in the world of art and colors started to... read about the history of art, painting techniques and masters who "described" our world by drawing it on the paper. Reading about the Osman's, Persian and Indian pictures, compared to european art's made me feel... ashamed that I know so little about both western and eastern art. The narration is also a masterpiece when it show's so many point of views on the current problem moved in the book. We see it as an victim but then we can see it as a murderer. We can see it as an master and we can see it as a jewish old woman, who never obtain a skill of reading and writing. Thanks to this, we cannot have certain emotions and reflections about all charcters and we can both feel angry and sorry for a murderer or his victim. And finally last thing that shocked me in narration was the way Pamuk describes the streets of Istanbul... I never saw it's streets and I even didn't try to find it's pictures beacuse... I felt this city and like being in this magical city, just by reading what the turkish noblist wrote! This book start like a fairy tale, continues as an romantic story, then through the crimainal motives reach the end. But even if all plots are solved after reading last word of that book, there is not happy ending... "My name is Red" is just like our life- when our dreams finally comes true, we understand that something else is finishing... when we have everything at the presen we are starting to lose ourselves in the past. I think that I can identify with the Black... I just feel this melancholy etching his heart after everything that was descriebed in this book. But as it is wrote in great Quran: "To God belongs the east and the west" ...and we should just accept it.

one of the best books on sex and everything that goes along with it I've read. Definately recommend, especially to anyone who wonders of the meaning of sex.
