I have a hard time rating this book because of its many layers and overall complexity. The main reason I didn't give it a five-star rating is because I believe it went too much into historical depth. This is a personal preference- the somewhat dry history of backgrounds and philosophies of famous psychoanalytic thinkers does not help me learn. On the other hand, I loved the chapters about the integration of psychoanalysis and Christian faith. I found her forthright discussion of modern-day Christianity and its intersection with psychoanalysis was highly enriching, both personally and professionally. The case material was the most grabbing, and a great way of illuminating her theory. In summary, I recommend this book for its revolutionary marriage of Relational Psychoanalysis and Christian belief, and how that relates to what happens between therapist and client.
