A lovely book but an intense and not easy to read book. Descriptions of the West are bang on and lovely and challenging (as is much of the terrain). Character delineation will be with me a long while ...excellent and intelligent. So many talking points...East vs West, marriage, expectations vs reality and a tremendous sense of the pioneering spirit of our forefathers...their courage, determination and selflessness. I loved reading and thinking about this book and continue to think about it. A great Western novel.

good. long. it was a long book..but definitely a short history of just about everything and written as only bill bryson could.
