While I was conditioned to expect a phenomenal novel from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri, I was sorely disappointed by this novel. While the first half of the novel is rich, describing the immigrant experience for a Bengali couple living in the United States (one of my all-time favorite topics in novels), the second half falls apart and seems far too contrived. Ironically, i found the movie to be MUCH better than the book!
