This book is very touching and has a host of well thought out characters. It would be five stars if it weren't for the fact that the book is so darn preachy. The author does not seem to want us to form our own opinions about issues, but frequently cuts in comments that are almost bossy in wanting us to feel the same way. Now, this would not be such a large problem if the story itself did not compell us to feel that way regardless of what the author thinks. Her comments are needless and often annoying. The book itself is very good, and I can see how it was a huge factor in starting the Civil War, as its biggest strength is drawing out emotions from people. You really care about what happens to the characters.
