Although the writing leaves something to be desired and doesn't make for the best read-aloud, the story and characters were greatly enjoyed by my Egyptian students. There were actually names and places and events that we could relate to here in Cairo! I used the book when studying about ancient Egypt but it lead into excellent discussions comparing and contrasting modern and ancient Egypt.
