Good youth book that looks at WWII through the eyes of a very naive 10 year old. Although it is fiction it is a fairly good premise for a book. There is alot going on that as an adult you read between the lines...however, from an adult perspective there were lots of problems with the book. One was language. I don't think that in German fury means the same thing as it does in English or Out-with. So that little play on words didn't work for me. Also, knowing what I know about WWII and Hitler Youth, they were indoctrinated very young, I find it hard to believe that the boy was so clueless about who Jews were. He would have been taught early that they were bad. A sad and very predictable ending. Okay, I guess I wanted to like the book, but it was just too contrived and ultimately unbelievable for my taste.
