This series was recommended to me by many, many people...and I can see why. I was hooked within a dozen pages. Political intrigue, excellent characters, familiar-yet-fresh settings. Nothing but win.

This is definitely "a war is hell" type book. It focuses on a new lieutenant's tour in Vietnam and pinpoints racial strife, inept leadership, abysmal weather and living conditions, binge drinking and drug abuse, black marketing but, redemptively, also highlights reluctant heros and the strong bonds of friendship forged by these men. Very intense for me - probably brutal for anyone who served in Vietnam.
