I can see why this book won the Pulitzer. Agee does an amazing job describing landscape, emotions, trains of thought. You could tell he was familiar with the landscape of Knoxville in the early 20th century; his depiction reminded me of the warmth and comfort of a good Southern drawl. He made the landscape seem like home. I also have to give Agee credit for spending 300 pages on the death of one man! The way the author describes how a man's death impacts a variety of people was impressive. He seemed to get inside the hearts and minds of men, women, adults, and children and each person's response seemed genuine. What struck me most, however, about this book was how the dead man's wife found inner strength to keep going. For me, she is a role model for how to continue life after such loss.
